Austin’s Zoning and Platting Commission voted 9-2 to advance the rezoning of the old Rosedale School site to allow a massive 465-unit luxury apartment complex to be constructed in the single-family neighborhood, rejecting hours of testimony from neighborhood residents.
The commission had previously delayed the issue and rescheduled it for March 17, a day that coincided with St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break for both Austin public schools and the University of Texas, and the annual South by Southwest conference.
Despite the crowd-dampening date, about 75 Rosedale residents attended, many wearing green “Play Fair With Rosedale” T-shirts, and took turns detailing why a such a large development is incompatible with the neighborhood.
