Play Fair With Rosedale leaders organized a tour Monday of a 70-unit development of an affordable housing project that the neighborhood has welcomed and continues to support.
Ovetta Rosedale, 4202-4210 Medical Parkway, is a mixed-income affordable family housing community now under construction, with occupancy expected some time this winter.
When complete, it will feature 100 percent affordable units, onsite classrooms, a child care facility, a fitness center, and a clubhouse. More than two-thirds of the apartments will have two or three bedrooms, making them family-friendly as well as affordable.
Play Fair leaders on the tour said this development stands in sharp contrast to the one proposed for the former Rosedale School site. There, the developer OHT Partners plans to build a 435-unit complex of 1- and 2-bedroom luxury apartments, making them less family friendly. The developer has not committed to providing any affordable units.

“We’re thrilled to have this amazing affordable housing option right in the heart of Rosedale,” said Chris Allen, who helped organize the tour. Allen is a member of the steering committees of both Play Fair With Rosedale and the Rosedale Neighborhood Association. The two groups sent a joint letter May 1 opposing the school development plan in its current state, and asking for a delay in the site’s rezoning. The Austin City Council is slated to vote on the rezoning May 7.
A delay would allow time for the Rosedale School redevelopment to change to something more closely resembling the Ovetta site, Allen said.

Ovetta “is close to everything: employment, shopping, healthcare, transit, Bryker Woods Elementary, and Ramsey Park,” Allen said. “We can’t wait for our newest neighbors to arrive in early 2027. Megan Lasch and her team at Saigebrook Development have been fantastic to work with and have put together an awesome new community for their tenants.”
Lasch, owner and president of O-SDA Industries, led the group of Play Fair With Rosedale leaders, along with Austin City Councilmember Marc Duchen, through the development. As they climbed up flights of stairs and stepped around piles of construction material, she pointed out features and explained the specialized financing such projects require.
“Seeing this outstanding affordable housing take shape made me proud of the neighborhood for immediately and publicly supporting the project,” said Carl Reynolds, one of the Rosedale leaders on the tour. “Rosedale residents are in general a very compassionate bunch of people. We welcome opportunities to extend hospitality and our unbeatable location with new neighbors who could not live in central Austin any other way.”
